Adult Swim Announces Festival Featuring Performances from Flying Lotus, T-Pain

Adult Swim Festival takes place in Downtown Los Angeles from October 6-7

Adult Swim is an undeniably influential, adult-oriented late-night programming block on Cartoon Network which features groundbreaking shows like Cowboy Bebop, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and The Venture Brothers. They continue their culture dominating takeover with the announcement of their first-ever music and comedy festival with a diverse lineup starring Open Mike Eagle, Big Freedia, Flying Lotus, and Dan Deacon amongst many others.

Adult Swim Festival takes place October 6th and 7th in Downtown, at the Row DTLA. The two-day festival features a variety of artists from both the musical and comedy world including top billing acts such as Run The Jewels, Wavves, Thundercat, and Jena Friendman. Unlike other festivals, Adult Swim Festival shields away from the reunion, or “legacy,” acts, in favor of more modern, genre-bending acts.

After FYF’s startling decision to cancel it’s already announced festival, which was set to take place this upcoming weekend (July 22-23), due to low ticket sales, Adult Swim Festival will be filling a void left by the city’s largest festival. Looking to capitalize on FYF’s absence, Adult Swim Festival could potentially establish itself as the city’s premier festival. Taking place in October, instead of the summer, also helps Adult Swim Festival separate itself from the gamut of festivals which populate the summer months.

One noticeable aspect of the lineup is the row of question marks which block some of the remaining artists. With two months until the festival, it will be interesting to see who Adult Swim will add to the lineup. Although the lineup is overflowing with abundant talent, it lacks noticeable star power. Will Adult Swim announce a blockbuster within the next few months? We’ll have to wait and see.
