While the EDM scene continues its quest for new soundscapes, Deadmau5, who helped normalize the genre, is looking backwards.
New project from EDM behemoth, Joel Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5, releases this Friday. The 14-track album, “where’s the drop?” is a collaboration with composer, Gregory Reveret and features a full orchestra performing some of the DJ’s best works.
Last week, the artist tweeted a set list of what to expect in his upcoming album.”where’s the drop?” will feature re-imaginings of Zimmerman’s chart-toppers, “Imaginary Friends,” “Avaritia,” and “Strobe,” as well as “HR 8938 Cephei” and “Invidia.”
Some mediums of music are best experienced live and Zimmerman obviously knows this to be true of the orchestra. On March 31 and April 1 only, Deadmau5 will be performing selections from “where’s the drop?” live at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. While tickets are near sold out for the event, Zimmerman has partnered with Tidal to live-stream the performance to its members.
Tidal subscribers also enjoy the perks of an early listening of the album, and pre-sale tickets to the upcoming concerts. Since this listener isn’t privy to a Tidal subscription, tune in Saturday for a review of the album after its official release.
