Now in its second year, the LA Times Food Bowl ended this weekend and with it a new burger champion crowned.
This weekend only, The LA Times Food Bowl united 9 of LA’s craftiest burger-specialists as well as a few celebrity counterparts to compete in the Secret Burger Showdown hosted by Off the Menu and Postmates.
What happened next was the greatest and greasiest display of gourmet burger innovation in recent history. We would know, we were there to see Tommy Lee, Actress Shay Mitchell, and model Charlotte McKinney crafting these meaty anomalies. But don’t take our word for it.
Take a look at what some of this year’s teams came up with.
Shay Mitchell teamed up with the guys at Wolf Restaurant to create the Bougie Burger. Despite its veggie-pattie base, this burger is layered in White Cheddar cheese, and smothered in bacon-onion schmutz and truffle mayo, making it far from vegan-friendly.
Model Charlotte McKinney and Chef Aaron May from Malibu Burger Co. put together these sliders!!
Rocker Tommy Lee came together with the folks at Grill’EmAll to concoct a Mediterranean-flavored burger complete with tzatziki, cucumber, tomato salad on a ciabatta roll.
While each of these foodie fantasies did their part in furthering the science of burgernomics, nothing could compare with what DJ Marshmello and Plan Check came up with. The burger that won them the competition was a variation on Plan Check’s already popular slider: the PCB Burger. Here, the team combined their famous ketchup leather with charcoal dust and truffle cheese to create the decadent Marshmello Burger.
At this time, no actual Marshmellows were used in the making of these burgers but check back in next year, that’s likely to change.
