Kamaiyah and School Boy Q flex with their single video “Addicted to Ballin'”

The west coast queen is back with another anthem “Addicted to Ballin’“. And this time she teams up with fellow California artists School Boy Q to deliver a song that is so west coast. Kamaiyah first burst onto the scene with her hit song “Out the Bottle” from her “A Good Night in the Ghetto” mixtape, which helped earn her a spot on the 2017 XXL Freshman list. Her love for 90s music and fashion combined with her unique flow has changed the mold of what a female rap artist should be.

DJ Mustard is the producer of “Addicted to Ballin'” who was influenced by the Bay Area bounce that was made popular with the likes of Mac Dre and E-40. He starts out the track with his well-known tag “Mustard on the beat, hoe!”. Kamaiyah’s verse stands out with a sing-rap flow that uses the same cadences as the chorus, making it a smooth transition from chorus to verse. Lines like “I pull up in my Benz (woah)” and “I must get this money (I, I, I, I, I, I, I)” shows how the use of ad-libs contributed to the sound of this verse as Kamaiyah uses these to put an explanation point on how Addicted to Ballin’ she is.

School Boy Q spits the 2nd verse on the track. This collaboration coming months after Kamaiyah posted a picture of her and the TDE artist on her Instagram. School Boy Q delivers some pretty clever lines as he speaks on his ballin lifestyle, even giving a line to the Hyphy Bay Area culture.

Talk about he ballin’,
watch this (watch this bitch)
Bitches start to love me too quick
Went to Oakland with a few crips
Tell Kamaiyah gas break, dip, yeah
