Tuesday, July 7, 2020, will be a day of solidarity for all people of color. #BlackoutDay2020, created by Calvin Martyr, is a call to action founded on the mission of “creat[ing] an international community of economic solidarity and national consciousness unified around our common experience and ancestry as Emancipated Peoples of America.” On #BlackoutDay2020, Martyr is calling for people of color to showcase their economic spending power by not spending any money on that specific day. While it is only one day, it will send a message to this economically focused country that people of color are of value, and in this case, economically valuable. This type of protest will only be impactful with a huge amount of support.
