Singer-songwriter, fashion and beauty mogul, and philanthropist Rihanna hosted her Fifth Annual Diamond Ball at New York’s historic Cipriani Wall Street. The extravagant event is just another night in the life for Rihanna, but the event was actually to support her Clara Lionel Foundation, an organization that supports and funds groundbreaking education for disenfranchised children and communities.
More than 600 guests arrived, with star power fueling the night. Some of the notable guests and performances included 2 Chainz, Megan Thee Stallion, G-Eazy, Machel Montano, Fabolous, Yo Gotti, Fat Joe and DJ Khaled, and Pharrell Williams who was joined on stage with Rihanna.
The goal of the night was to help raise money for Rihanna’s foundation, with a heavy focus on climate change initiatives. Guests were able to bid on an all-expense-paid trip to see Serena Williams in her next grand slam shot, with the trip costing $60,000; a limited-edition coffee-table book of Rihanna photos that weighs 60 pounds, including a 2000 pound custom sculpted marble pedestal, a trip to Barbados which involved a dinner with the Prime Minister as well as an accompanied submarine trip. There were also live donations that were matched by Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder. By the end of the night, the fundraising event was successful: the Clara Lionel Foundation raised over $5 million.
