New Music: ‘Solita’ By Kali Uchis Single Release

Kali Uchis makes a substantial comeback with her new single ‘Solita’ released December 4th. This is the first piece of new music she’s put out since the release of her debut studio album ‘Isolation’ last year.

In 2017 Uchis released a single entirely in Spanish, ‘Nuestro Planeta’ featuring Reykon which has a comparable sound to ‘Solita’.

However, ‘Solita’ is the singers first official bilingual single. Uchis’ heart rending deliverance of this song is an exciting epitome for her future projects. She has indicated this is the start of a new era as she’s recently mentioned that she plans on releasing more music in Spanish

In a brief interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, Uchis said her next project is “going to be pretty much all Spanish, and so this is probably one of the more bilingual songs on the album.”

‘Solita’ inherently translates to “alone,” in a way it’s like a new take on her song ‘Loner’ from 2015 which is essentially about not wanting to be mistreated or feel unwanted by a lover. Lyrically the songs are similar, except soundwise ‘Loner’ has a mellower pace and tone.

‘Solita’ is like the embodiment of heartbreak with a Latin trap sound to it. The lyrics are melancholic yet the beat makes you feel like dancing.

The song starts off with angelic vocalizations and heavenly instrumentals. The transition into the first lyric in the intro, “como una espina de rosa, cuando yo te vi con otra, fue lo que sentí,” has a reggaeton sort of beat to it.

This makes sense because the song was produced by Tainy who’s worked with other artists like Bad Bunny and J Balvin whose style is comparable to the vibe ‘Solita’ embodies.

Throughout the song, Uchis has seemingless transitions between Spanish and English without breaking the flow or meaning of the lyrics.

“He asked me why I’m all alone, solita, solita. Bailando aquí sola, como a mí me gusta, solita, solita.”

If you haven’t listened to the single yet, be prepared to feel nostalgic with the sensual reggaeton rhythm that makes you want to shake ur hips.

In a press statement Uchis said of her new single, “This song is about healing, freedom and embracing the mixed emotions that come with that. I hope my fans feel sexy when they listen to it. I’m so excited to share more.”
