Officers Officially Charged in the Killing of Rayshard Brooks

Rayshard Brooks was killed on June 12th, 2020, after an altercation at a Wendy’s with local police in Atlanta. The 27-year-old is seen, via body cam footage, to struggle with officers after failing a sobriety test, who had been called as Brooks was suspected to be under the influence. In the struggle, Brooks took a taser away from one of the officers, ran away, and allegedly pointed the taser at the officers, who then proceeded to shoot and kill him.

There are several allegations that make the case complicated such as the taser Brooks took from the officer was not functional (which was supposedly known), the officers did not provide prompt medical assistance, and that Officer Garrett Rolfe kicked Brooks after he was shot lying on the ground.

A medical examiner declared his cause of death as a homicide.

The officers involved have been criminally charged. Rolfe is charged with felony murder, along with 10 other charges and Devin Brosnan faces aggravated assault charges.
