Women have an uncanny way of subtly moving into a male-dominated platform and using their feminine wiles to eventually dominate that platform. We are all familiar with the rap group, Wu-Tang Clan, a male band who has been performing since 1992 and has a well-established audience from their myriad of hits. Just when you thought it was safe to turn on the radio, enter an all-female rap group called, the “Pu-Tang clan.” Formed in 2006, the girls have a powerful message and are completely unapologetic in their delivery, using language that would make a sailor blush.

Text “Save Moms House” to 510-800-7810 to get updates on events and organizing surrounding this housing crisis. SAY NO TO #SB50 a bill that will make it very easy for developers to continue to take up space in a city where thousands of Oakland residents are homeless, the number of them disproportionately black. And honestly, idk if im saying it right but that’s the gist I think ahahahaha. I was educated by this OG OOOG lady when I stopped and joined the rally. All I know is #peopleoverprofits #keepoaklandblack #stopdevelopment #savemomshouse
Hailing from the Bay area (San Francisco/Oakland), the up and coming Pu-Tang Clan has already established an array of hit singles. Most notable is “Beat the Pussy Up (with a Baseball Bat).” This one hit garnered them a national audience and led to other hit singles including “Show It Love,” “Unchecked,” and “Pu-Tang Sword.” Some have said that “Show it Love,” was an attempt to win back potential female fans that might have been offended by the first track. It was not and that was made evident by the group’s principal performer. Although the group has 6 permanent members, there are at least 10 that perform at any given time. Born and raised in East Palo Alto, Qing Qi (pronounced King Kee) is the dominant force behind the Pu-Tang Clan. The attractive 32-year-old has made a name for herself writing and performing. “Fuckniggas,” is an anthem to any woman who has been involved with a dishonest, manipulative, money-deprived man. Qing Qi has already recorded the follow-up mixtape, “If the Nigga Ain’t Shit, Play this for His Bitch.” She says she hopes to show the men how it’s done and the mixtape will be released on, you guessed it, Valentine’s Day!
According to a spokesperson, the Pu-Tang Clan was formed to combat the evils of the post good rap era. With the death of O.D.B. and DMX’s brush with the legal system, modern day rap has hit a decline and has reached an all-time low. Without these warriors of the record labels and with the rap CEO Russell Simmons’ efforts to ban words like nigga, bitch, Jew, and hoe from rap music, today’s fans are becoming more and more fed up with the rap game and are calling for a drastic change. At a time when the industry needs this drastic change, the Pu-Tang Clan has garnered a cast of rappers with enough MC gusto to pull it off. Since the millennium, the industry has been flooded with a new generation of milk-toast rappers and other black performers like Fat Joe, 50 Cent, Rihanna, the Game, Beyonce, P. Diddy, Justin Timberlake, the Black-Eyed Peas, Kanye West, Ciara, and Jay-Z. According to this spokesperson, we need a new breed of rapper.
Besides Qing Qi, other members of the group include Big Chi, Shug who is Qing Qi’s sister and Pu Tang Tay. Qing Qi mentioned that because of the girls’ mixed ethnicity, they face a different set of problems. For example, she says that light-skinned women are not expected to act as “black” as they act and people have commented as to why Qing Qi uses the word nigga so much. Many audience members find it difficult to accept and have voiced their opinions on the subject.
Qing Qi explains, “We have to deal with so much, such as different standards of beauty and low expectations that people have of us. But we can do what we want, say what we want, and we have the ability to do that.”
The following is a quote I took from Pu-Tang Clan’s website: “Yo, Moms and Pops, I suggest you hide your daughters, cuz what we got is a little more intense than cops and robbers, cuz we got 6 killa MCs spitting hotter than boiling hot water and when we’re done here, its gonna be a pussy slaughter.”
The women of Pu-Tang Clan give new meaning to the word “explicit” and put a powerful edge to their edgy rap.
There are currently no events or concerts scheduled. Check Pu-Tang’s Facebook page and other social media for upcoming events.
